10 Mindful Ways To Say No (Again)
It’s ok to say no to the things you don’t have energy for, that don’t align with you, and that you don’t resonate with. -Lalah Delia
Saying no is a form of self care, soul care, self respect and protection.
(Lalah Delia, you inspired this list.)
- Simply no.
- I can’t, but I’m honored you asked me.
- I don’t have the energy for that.
- It’s not in alignment for me right now, but thanks for thinking of me.
- I’m not able to, I appreciate you.
- I don’t want to.
- I’m choosing not to.
- I decided not to.
Be mindful of what your intuition and nervous system says no to. Recognize when it’s a whole body no.
According to Delia, It’s also ok to pause, breathe, and take your time to respond, or even come with your answer at a later date. Not every ask requires your immediate response.
Be mindful of self-abandonment, which happens when we say yes to the things we have a strong no to.
Watch out for patterns and signs of toxic loyalty, which is when we continue being loyal by continuing to say “yes” to the people and things we no longer resonate with or are no longer in alignment with. So also, recognize when relationships have reached an expiration date.
It’s not your responsiblity to stay loyal to those who and what:
- Clearly doesn’t care about you in the ways you don’t care about them.
- Have taken you for granted/taken advantage
- People who you have outgrown.
- Realized they are not good or resonant for you.
Saying no can become beautiful mindfulness and energetic boundary practices rooted in self joy, self-respect, self-compassion. It doesn’t have to full heavy. According to Delia, the more and more you set boundaries in this way, saying no becomes an unapologetic empowerment practice. Your no is sacred, and it leaves you more room for your sacred yeses.
The people that love, support you and care for your best interests and well being, will receive your no with understanding and acceptance, that’s how you’ll know.
It’s 2022 at the time of this writing, but by the time you read it, it will be 2023. I had to write a ton of content ahead of time to stay consistent despite what’s happening. 🔥🙌
