Confessions Of A Long Time Colts Fan

The past 24 hours has been wild.

Dear Colts Nation,

We been through a lot.

It’s election night, and I want to get a break away from the coverage for a sec.

The Colts fired Frank Reich and hired Jeff Saturday as interim coach. It’s been a train wreck season. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but I think we are on quarterback #7, #8? Forgive the brain fog, it’s really been hard to keep up with. The number of quarterbacks and the unstableness of the seasons these past few seasons, yet this era has been spirit crushing.

Let me see here, I listed the quarterbacks below. Did I miss anyone? Let me know, and as soon as I find this perfect picture on Twitter I may post it. (It also listed the years.)

But here’s the quarterback musical chairs we been through. Basically we’ve had a different quarterback since 2016. (With some stepping in for injuries). If spelled anyone’s name wrong or there’s typos, my bad.

  • Andrew Luck
  • Matt Hasselbeck
  • Scott Tolzien
  • Jacoby Brissett
  • Josh Freeman
  • Brian Hoyer
  • Philip Rivers
  • Carson Wentz
  • Nick Foles
  • Matt Ryan
  • Sam Ehlinger

Jeff Saturday becoming interim coach is gonna be exciting (and different, but I live on, thrive and love different).

  • I also follow the Chiefs, Cowboys, Bills, a team from each coast/region/division. Sometimes the Rams, Bengals, & Tampa Bay.

After the 26 to 3 loss to New England (11/6/2022), and the loss to the Jags last playoff season, you can really forget what real football is supposed to look like if you don’t watch other teams play as a Colts fan. I’m known for my bluntness and I just can’t believe the fiasco that our fan base has gone through. Frank Reich is a good person, but if you don’t win games in this league, you will be replaced.

So to put this here again. I also follow the Chiefs, Cowboys, Bills, Rams, Bengals, and Tampa Bay. And basically if a team knows how to get the ball down the field, and actually get touchdowns, and act like they want to be there, I’m interested.

Jim Irsay, I can’t imagine what you are feeling right now. You’ve invested so much money just to get sub-par results. My wish for you? That you take a nice vacation and decompress.

This is off topic but it will relate in the end….but I’ve had a time or two where I had to distance myself from Indianapolis (and I will admit I had to stop watching some of the Colts games to save my spirit), a change of scenery is good. I’ve had my fair share of things happen, where no matter what I did or didn’t do things didn’t work out. I had to cut myself off from people, places and things I really cared about for my own good.

There’s a writer named Ossiana Tepfenhart that writes articles that relate to me so deeply.

This Is The Type Of Failure No One Talks About | by Ossiana Tepfenhart | ILLUMINATION | Oct, 2022 | Medium

In her article, she calls them lonely island failures. I call them the people everyone likes to f*** over.

Like she said in the article, she noticed that no one wanted to help her. Same with me. Throughout the years, since no one wanted to really help me like they freely helped others, it forced me to get creative and crafty, since at the core I’ll have that feeling of no one is going to help me but myself. While I never got jealous of anyone, I never understood why the help was freely given to others, but me not so much.

Like she’s saying. It’s impossible for me to ignore how many times I’ve been burnt. Like I said above, I had to end up cutting myself off from my schools, some organizations, a religion and mostly everyone I knew. To get the successes that are currently mine. I recommend everyone read that and the comments.

10 Low-Key Signs Someone’s Been Through Hell | by Ossiana Tepfenhart | ILLUMINATION | Oct, 2022 | Medium

I do not have a mental health disorder like BPD.

But I’ve had to get good at compartmentalizing. And I do have a high pain tolerance. Getting a hit to the face is no problem. I’m used to people talking shit behind my back.

When you been through enough, you’re always waiting for the other shoe to drop, exactly.

And I do have a lot of skills and talents (many will remain unnamed), because I basically got the memo that I’m going to have my own back.

7 Signs Someone Is Threatened By You | by Ossiana Tepfenhart | Moments | Medium

Reading that was like reading the story of my life.

I realize why so many people have treated me like they have over the years. It’s because they feel/felt threatened by me. While I was just looking for friends and people to trust. I had no earthly idea that my skills/talents/whatever made people get intimidated by me. Had I realized how threated they were by my fitness, looks or whatever, things would have made a lot more sense.

I have a group of articles that are similar that’s coming out in 2026. (Yeah I’ve written articles out that far into the future…because surgery Alesha wants to keep yall covered no matter what’s happening with me personally…)

I have no earthly idea what it’s like to run a football team, or own a football team or the pressures that you deal with. I know it isn’t easy firing people. I hate to see people lose their job. Because every time you’ve gotten a new quarterback over the years, or a new coach, I was hoping it would work out. I know you’ve given them chance after chance hoping it would work out. I can tell you let people stick around longer than you probably wanted to personally, because you’re a good person at the core. For you to fire someone in the middle of the season, I can sense that your frustration is at an all time high.

I also did something similar: held on to situations and people way past their due date, because like you, Jim, I hanging on for dear life hoping that it would work out, things will get better. I know on some level, with the the quarterbacks, coaches you picked, you were hoping that it would be for life, or at least until they decided to retire. I know that you wasn’t expecting 6, 7, years of jugging quarterbacks, and seasons where you’re thinking. WHAT HAPPENED? Peyton Manning was the best Colts quarterback in my lifetime.

I’m just hoping at some point, there’s a lot less Blue Mondays. And more of that magic that we once had during the Manning era.

Jeff, I remember the 2007 season where you were on the team that brought home the super bowl. What a magical time. I miss this. Since you were in that era of Colts football, I’m sending vibes that you bring it back.

No one is expecting their team to win all the time, and as a Colts fan, I can’t speak for everyone, but I’m sure no one is expecting wins all the time. Teams go through bad and good seasons, it happens.

Speaking for myself personally?

I think the problem I’m having is that one too many of the Colts players I watch, act like they don’t want to be their or put in the effort. I sense they are going through the motions.

No, all the games won’t be won all the time. Sometimes there will be drag out fights. Sometimes you can play your best, and the other team out plays you. Ok, fine, life isn't perfect.

I watch other teams around the league just put in some effort (i.e. the Chiefs were down the whole game and came back to win last week, I’ve watched the Bills do the same thing. And sometimes it doesn’t pan out no matter what a team does. But some of the other teams I watch usually come ready to play and put in an effort.)

Signed,

I Alesha, don’t want to adult today. I want to dog, and I’ll be lying in the sun, wishing upon a star that the Colts grab that spark again.

It’s 2022!🔥🙌
