Hello! I just realized that I have a lot of drafts that are stuck in my inbox. I decided to start clearing my inbox and start writing regularly again.
If you’re considering starting a business or have a business, don’t be discouraged if a lot of other businesses are already offering a similar type product or service. You should still do your homework on how you can stand out, but don’t let the crowded market scare you away.
How Do I Get More Business Than the Competition? Keep the client #1.
Step 1: Quit Fixating On The Money and Fixate On Your Customer.
When we think about earning money from our business, it’s easy to think of ourselves first.
Do you think about me, myself and I first? Or the customer first?
“What will get me more business? Me. Me. Me. I need to pay a bill. On Instagram, how often should I post pictures? I need to get my business attention. I need. I need to outsell my competition. I need to post something on Facebook to show my friends what I’m doing. I. I. I. I. I. What can I do to get myself out there so more people can notice me? I need this money to pay a bill. I”.
Notice that the client’s needs, fears or desires are not addressed here. Still, it’s the client that chooses to invest in us.
If you start a business just because you think it will make you filthy rich, Lamborghini, yacht buying, 10 mansion owning person, then you’re doing it for the wrong reasons. The most successful entrepreneurs and business owners aren’t focused solely on money. Sure, they need to pay bills and earn their living. But they also think about adding value to the client. They are focused on making a great product.
Step #2 Step Into The Shoes of Your Customers.
You can beat your competition by catering to your customers. Would you rather have thousands of followers just for the show? Or actually have a business that is successful so you can put your money where your mouth is?
Word of mouth and excellent service will earn you loyal followers.
STEP 3: Focus On What Your Client Wants & Needs Are.
- What are they afraid of?
- What are their passions?
- What are their aspirations?
- How can you add value?
- Why they choose you to help them over other choices?
- What do they need?
- What do they want?
STEP 4: Instead of focusing on your competition so much, focus on your mindset and abilities for your own clients more often.
You can’t control who’s better than you or what they might or might not be doing. The point is you shouldn’t let competition have a major impact on the way you run day to day operations; or let competition control your vision or your relationship with your clients. But you can control are your thoughts and your products/services.
For example, a music coach told me once there’s enough people out there for every music artist to have their “tribe.” With a billion+ people in the world, you can even carve out your tribe. Do you think Beyonce is worried about Lady Gaga stealing her thunder? Or vice versa? Exactly. If you notice, music artists collaborate with each other all the time.
Oscar Meyer is a popular hot dog brand. But there’s tons of other brands that are selling hot dogs and doing well. Do you think Hebrew National, Nathan’s and Ball Park is threatened by each other or Oscar Meyer? Exactly.
