What Do You No Longer Believe?

Here’s my responses to a Ramit Sethi article:

  1. I no longer believe that college is the only path to success.

Ironically, growing up, I was taught that it was the way and the only way you are ever going to make something out of yourself. Same way I feel about a 9 to 5. That’s one way to make money, but it’s not the only way to make money.

2. I no longer believe that fitting in is “in.” It’s overrated.

It’s interesting to me how many people choose fitting in over personal happiness. I notice some of us 20’s somethings try so hard to fit in. Too many of us care about what others think of us. By the time we are 60, 70 and 80, we wonder where our life has been and why we didn’t pursue our dreams (or let people talk you out of going after your dreams.) If you are a 20 something or a person in general that goes against the status quo? Good for you! :D

You don’t have to answer these questions, this is for you to think about. Do you remember what goals you set and what goal you accomplished for yourself? Are you at your current job because your parents told you to do that, or is it really your passion? Is it something that you REALLY want to do, or is it because you were told to do it? I’m talking about your goals. The bold moves, the things you want — but society doesn’t talk about. The goals you don’t tell your friends about because they sound crazy.

Again, I’m not talking about the goals that are set for you by society, peers, family and friends. I’m talking about something you want for yourself. Kind of like don’t forget who you were before the world told you how to be. Food for thought.

Think about all the goals that society sets for us (I’m in the 20 to 30 age group but I will stop there:

  • 20s: Make money. And they start asking you if you are married and start having kids (And gosh I wish they quit asking me about kids that’s the last thing I think about). At the end of your 20’s, you need to start buying a house and settling down. (I keep getting the marriage question and it’s a quick and repeating f*ck no.)
  • 30s: If you aren’t married and don’t have kids, WTF are you doing? You’re selfish! At this point, you need to be established in your career also.
  • 40s: Stability and family.
  • 50s: Family and retirement.

If you choose to be different and not follow the path that’s set for you? Lawdz, there will be hell to pay. I’m not knocking people for living this life, because it’s easier to go along then to go against the current.

But what if you want to be different? Why do we ignore our goals? It’s easier to go along to get along.

Sometimes, it’s MUCH easier to go with the expectations (and rationalize it later) than it is to define success for yourself (and figure out how to actually get it).-Ramit Sethi (this guy is a genius, let me steal your brain for like 2 months haha)

Sound familiar?

  • The people who go to get their masters because they think it will help them get a job or make them more “qualified.”
  • The people who haven’t figured things out and stay at a job that they hate.
  • The couple who gets married because they feel pressure or that’s what they are expected to do.
  • Like I said above, people who go to college to be a doctor or lawyer because their parents wanted them to and it will make them good money.

Then they wake up years, maybe decades later wondering what happened.

Plus, isn’t it better to take a safe path instead of taking a path that could lead to failure? It’s almost like a double edged sword. People growing up tell you to chase your “dreams” but when you actually do it they start telling you:

“Oh that’s so unrealistic, you being in acting. You should get a real job that will actually pay the bills.” In other words, they couldn’t see themselves doing it, so they think you will fail at it and try to talk you out of it to take the safe route.

It’s scary to decide what you want for yourself. Fear of failure is a very real problem, especially for ambitious people. We’re talented, we’ve been told how smart we are our whole lives, and now we’re supposed to “prove” it by achieving our goals. Gulp.

Suddenly, putting off your big project — and potential failure — one more day doesn’t sound so bad.

Hello There! I’ve been involved in different businesses in several different capacities from being ceo, coo, co-founder, and more. I’ve learned so much from creating businesses, and I look forward to all the learning experiences I will have from starting new ventures.

With one business I was involved with, we made it possible to install a little device with customized hardware and a SaaS solution implemented to the router, the business owner was able see live data about social media info collected.

With another company, we had professional internet marketing company that focus on digital marketing campaigns, services and jobs such as SEO, PPC, Online Reputation Management, and social media marketing.

With EYT, I oversaw day-to-day operations and keeping the CEO apprised of significant events;Yes I actually talk with my business partner on a daily basis. I created operations strategy and policies; Communicated strategy and policy to employees and interns; Fostering employee alignment with corporate goals; and overseeing human resource management. I also delegate tasks to my team.

My current project is Bones’ Custom Guitar. We create custom guitars for musicians with imported wood. No one Bones’ guitar is the same. We also repair guitars. Jared, my band mate came up with the idea and foundation for Bones’.

Long story cut short. I’ve been playing gigs and booking shoots. My go to guitar, Blu Blu broke during this. When I went to get it repaired in Indy getting it fixed cost way more than the actual cost of the guitar.

It didn’t seem right. After talking with other musicians in Indianapolis, Chicago, Nashville and other cities for second opinions they thought the shop was trying to pull a fast one. So our mission is to offer fair prices for repairs and custom guitars for fellow musicians.

We are both Indy & LA based.

My biggest project currently? I’m also involved in entertainment as an actress, founder, and producer. We are currently producing 2 film projects with one of them having 1 million in financing.
